My 4th of July kite cookies are another textbook example of how easy things can, and do, go awry in the cookie decorating world.
I thought some red, white and blue kite cookies for 4th of July would be, well, cute: Something a bit different.
Well, different they were. And that’s putting it mildly.
Two dozen kite cookies were cut and ready for baking. I should know better than to start doing laundry when I’m baking cookies but I’m the queen of multi-tasking so….
Well, the first dozen burnt to a crisp so I was left with one more tray.
Thankfully they baked up perfectly and once they had cooled I sealed them in my air tight container which I promptly then dropped on the floor.
It didn’t take advanced math skills to count the seven I had broken, so a bit disgusted with myself, I set out to decorate the remaining five kites.
And that wasn’t the end of it. Oh no. That would be too easy.
It wasn’t until I started decorating the first two that I realized my red icing was much too thin. With red seeping into blue and turning purple, and pools of red bleeding into the white icing, my cookie decorating area was beginning to resemble a murder scene.
It’s my own fault. I had way too many things going on at the same time: A house that needed some serious cleaning as well as the aforementioned laundry, a road trip to Orlando happening the next morning, and too many cookie orders that needed decorating at the same time.
I need to learn to say no once in a while.
Thankfully the kite cookies were not an order for someone. These I was just making for the heck of it.
Out of the three cookies I salvaged in the end, one wasn’t even photographable if I’m allowed to make up my own words here.
And as for the other two, I’m happy with just this one.
All is well though. They’re just cookies. and regardless of how they look, they taste the same as the best cookies I’ve decorated.
Even with the mishaps I they still say Happy 4th of July, and in the end the laundry was done, the house is still standing, the orders all got finished, and the Orlando trip was a barrel of fun.
On to the next cookies…..
